<p>You know that you want to sway away from the typical ordinary reception that everyone seems to throw.  Although funds are running low and time is running out, there are still some great ways to create a fresh and contemporary event that none of your guests have experienced yet.</p>
<p><strong>Pick an Appropriate Sized Venue<br />

<p>There will always be the issue of choosing between an outdoor or indoor reception. But lets face it, it rains in Oregon 9 months out of the year and even during summer, nights get really chilly.  So to save time, let&#8217;s focus on indoor venues. Depending on the size of your party you want to make sure the venue is appropriately sized. Most buildings have maximum capacity rules which you want to make sure to follow. However on the other hand, you want to make sure that the venue you choose  isn&#8217;t going to swallow your guests. No one likes huge empty spaces or gaps during the reception, they are awkward and uncomfortable. You want to create the feeling of intimacy and if you have booze flowing there is no better way to get your guest comfortable.</p>

<p>Typically when choosing a venue the first thing that comes to mind is a ballroom or a hall, preferably at a hotel. However if you are looking to save money cross that option off your list. Going for a different type of venue will instantly save you cash. At first you might not dare even consider renting a bar or smaller reception space, but don&#8217;t write the idea off so quickly. Bars, barns, backyards, restaurants, parks, near by lakes or rivers, beaches, or warehouses are great alternative spaces, get creative with it.  Any of these venues will save you money. If you are worried about the venue being too different, discuss it with your event planner. A true event planner can transform any venue into the reception of your dreams.</p>

<p><strong>Decide on a BUDGET</strong></p>
<p>Although throwing a sweet sixteen for you kid should be special it should also not dramatically affect your bank account. Be wise and reasonable about how much you should spend on the party. As much as your sweet little soon to be 16 year old might want to up-show their friends it should not harm your carefully saved earnings. Sit down with your teenager and discuss how much you are willing to spend. If this is unsatisfactory to them then you might possibly suggest they contribute to the pot as well. Be straightforward with your kid and with yourself. By letting your kid in on how much you can spend helps to not let them have too high of expectations.</p>
<p>Although you have set a budget remember to be flexible. 95% of the time you will be spending 15% to 35% over it.</p>
<p><strong>Create a GUEST LIST<br />
</strong></p>
<p>Go over with your teen a guest list for the party. The size of the party can dramatically affect your budget, so be reasonable with your kid about who should be invited.</p>
<p><strong>Pick a THEME</strong></p>
<p>Talk with your teen about the possibility of having a themed sweet 16. Some kids may love the idea of a theme while others might shut it down. Picking a theme can either add to the budget or may things easier. If your teen wants everything all pink, it eliminates a lot of decisions down the road. However if your teen wants everything at the party monogrammed it can seriously rack up a bill. But make sure to talk it over with your soon to be sixteen year old.</p>
